Jennifer Levenhagen

Jennifer Levenhagen is exploring creative awareness through photography, haiku poetry, piano improvisations, and more. They are currently sharing daily haiku poetry as they turn toward the winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere. They post piano improvisations, often backed by a video they’ve taken outside. Sometimes music is the only sound, and other times it is joined by the sounds of waves, rain, birds, or wind. Some of these “music videos” are specifically tagged as mediations, but each one is available to patrons who follow that practice. You may listen with your eyes closed, watch the stillness or movement in the video, or whatever feels good to you. Jennifer welcomes patron feedback about the timing and frequency of posts, and is always touched to hear that something they’ve shared has been meaningful. They also regularly post haiku poetry and photography. Most recently, they posted a songwriting work-in-progress (WIP): an audio recording of them playing and singing the song they were in the process of writing, and a photo of them and their guitar right after recording it. Other benefits to patrons include photography and handwritten notes. Check out the tier descriptions for more. About Impersonating an ant: The improvisational journey is like an ant trying to climb a tree. Leaves of grass may brush past their face along the way, but the ant only ever looks at the climb. Improvising on the piano has been a way for them to connect internally, and to process life experiences. At the request of a few who had overheard and connected with the music, they eventually started sharing what began as a very private experience. It was challenging for them to start playing this raw, vulnerable music where people could hear them. It became easier, as they learned that their own improvisational journey could be profound for people who were listening. Now, sharing this music and this process is a gift for themselves, and for others. None of Jennifer’s original music, photography, or their mediations are exclusive to any platform. Whether you follow via the internet, through social networks like Facebook and Twitter, or directly, you will always have the most timely version available to you. \n##\n\n\n##\n\n Jennifer Levenhagen is an artist based in Michigan who explores self, place, relationship, environment, and many iterations of “why?” and “how?” through their art.
