LeLe Farley

LeLe Farley is a comic who is using the pandemic as a catalyst to step up their career as a bilingual performer. LeLe has studied Chinese for most of their life. The language, the culture, and the people have fascinated them since high school. So much so that they spent most of their 20’s studying and working in China. They learned acting at a drama school in Beijing, and spent time working in China’s entertainment industry as an actor/comedian. They returned to Los Angeles two years ago, and began developing a career as a bilingual event and TV host. Then the pandemic hit, and they lost everything. Sure, all their gigs got canceled forcing them to leave LA and move back with their parents, but more importantly, they lost China. Under the leadership of Xi Jinping, the country has gone the way of North Korea, crushing dissent and promoting anti-US nationalism. Witnessing this has brought them intense pain and insomnia. They wanted to speak out, but if they did, they’d never be able to return and see their friends or teachers. They’d never be able to revisit the country that’s been like a second home to them. But fuck it. They want to make a career as a bilingual comedian and rapper, that means it’s their duty to speak out when other’s can’t. If Chinese abroad criticize the government online, their family in China will be attacked. The CCP doesn’t have that leverage on them. So even though they never thought their Chinese studies would lead them down this path, here they are, in the midst of a pandemic and the beginning of a new Cold War. Ordinary citizens will suffer, as will the environment. And they believe with the critical condition of the environment, abandoning China will only ensure our planet’s destruction. Excuse them if they sound alarmist, but as the number one and two polluters in the world, the fate of our species lie in how we handle the US-China relationship. So they hope to use their voice as a bridge between the US and China, to show Americans that the Chinese Government does not represent the people. They are victims, and like you, they too wish for a better world.###\n\n\n
